Frozen in Time. With our heads down, we pushed forward through the cold, gusting winds towards the distant silhouettes on the horizon. Hot breathe billowed from the dark cloth covering our faces. It quickly disappeared into the onslaught of ice blasting through the air. Each step atop the hard packed snow rang out with a crunch as our boots sunk below the windswept surface. The rhythmic sounds of our footsteps quickly carried us on our way. Breaking through the trees my shadow transformed into a giant before swiftly vanishing before me. One wrong step had sent me plunging deep below the surface, swallowed whole by feet of fresh powder. Laughter rang out behind me and I couldn’t help but join in. Looking up from my snowy tomb I watched the golden rays of the sun illuminate the timeworn barn, gently coaxing the century old timber back to life. As if on cue the winds began to fade and the clouds parted, bathing us in the warm embrace of the sun under perfect bluebird skies. We had arrived.
