Carved by Time. Descending into the lush, thriving valley, my feeling of exhaustion gave way to the overwhelming sensation of reaching paradise. Each leap from boulder to trail brought me closer to the heart of a land undisturbed by the shortcomings of man. Ice cold creeks flowed under my feet as glaciers older than mankind slowly melted from the fading light of the sun. As I skipped across natural rock bridges my feet quickly sunk into the squishy marsh like banks that awaited me on the other side. “If only I had made it here sooner”, I thought to myself. With so many tarns to explore and rocks to climb it was a race against the setting sun. The golden-orange hues of the sun swiftly began to fade, transforming the land from Shangri-La to an unforgiving maze of darkness filled with slippery, crumbling steps and chilly winds that swept away any motivation to explore. My day had come to an abrupt end. By the pale glow of a full moon I let my thoughts of adventure quietly subside to the pressing hunger that began to grow. Cresting over the top of an ice covered glacier I gazed upon my home for the night. With the moon’s glassy reflection staring back at me from the tranquil waters of an alpine lake, I had stumbled across a small flat beach covered in soft, cold sand. A clearing devoid of rock that fit my tent perfectly; It was a match made in heaven.
