Story

In Search Of Fresh Powder. The soft, fresh snow crunched beneath my feet as I lumbered down the steep slopes. I couldn’t help but smile. I had conquered the mountain and was heading towards the ever alluring thoughts of hot food and a cold drink. Cresting over the ridgeline I watched a black figure materialize out of the mountain mist. Without any gear besides the snowboard carried on his shoulders, he was in search for one thing: untouched runs down the mountain. Catching his breath, he let his weight fall to the earth, sinking into the deep snow. The muffled sound of my approaching steps grew louder, stirring him from his short-lived rest. Determination gleamed from his eyes. Peering up the mountain he cautiously analyzed the route ahead. “Hey man, this is some sick powder. How is it up above?” he asked in an unexpected surfer tone. Surprised by the accent I spoke of trail and weather conditions, while he ecstatically shared his plans to shred. The conversation fell silent as the clouds eerily grew nearer. The cold, winter fog slowly consumed everything in their path until we were all alone, entombed by the white mist. With a little hint of hesitation and fear in his voice he asked “How’s the bergschrund man?” “You can’t miss it,” I reassured him, “but be careful.” With the chilly grip of winter gradually stealing our motivation we parted ways, disappearing into the unknown, a little unsure of what was lurking in the shadows ahead.
