Story

A Little While Longer. The icy, cold breeze brushed against my exposed neck, sending shivers down my spine. We had only been at the top for a few minutes and I was already about to call it. Crouched behind a rock, I flung my jacket open to create a temporary shelter from the wind. “Are you done?!?” she called out. “Not yet,” I shouted between chattering teeth, “I just gotta switch lenses really quick. A little while longer, I promise!” Peering down, I saw my blue, bloodless fingers fumble across the slick, frost covered camera. “Come on,” I slowly whispered to myself. Quickly the all too familiar feelings caught me off guard, frustration and impatience began to boil from inside as my numb hands began to sting. One second you feel fine, warm and cozy, bundled-up inside the perfect cocoon, and then, in an instant, your dexterity disappears, the life from your bare hands is ripped away by the wind, one frigid second at a time. With a couple of well placed snaps it was time. Before I even had a chance to pickup my gear, she had started her descent, eyeing the tempting, warm protection of the tree line. Pausing to take it all in, I took one last deep breath of the cool, crisp summit air and disappear beneath the ridgeline.
